ACC Bishops Release Statement on the Execution of Frank Atwood
The Bishops of the Arizona Catholic Conference (ACC) have just released a joint statement on the scheduled execution of Frank Atwood. The statement may be read in its entirety at www.azcatholicconference.org.
With the next execution currently scheduled for June 8th, the bishops in each diocese are also encouraging participation by the faithful in several events leading up to this date.
In the Diocese of Tucson, Bishop Edward Weisenburger will be hosting a holy hour for his diocese on Monday, June 6th at 6:00 p.m. at Our Lady’s Chapel at St. Augustine’s Cathedral.
Additionally, Bishop Nevares will lead a national prayer vigil on Friday, June 3rd at 11:00 a.m. in conjunction with the Catholic Mobilizing Network. This will be a virtual event and registration information can be found at https://catholicsmobilizing.org/first-fridays.
With regard to the Diocese of Phoenix, Bishop Thomas Olmsted will lead a prayer vigil on Tuesday, June 7th at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Basilica. Please join the Sisters of Life and other diocesan leaders as we pray for all involved with the death penalty and the end of this practice.
Finally, Bishop James Wall is asking all of the parishioners in the Diocese of Gallup to pray a rosary with him this week for these intentions on Saturday, June 4th following the 8:00 a.m. Mass at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
